  • 360 g black coffee (or 2 teaspoons instant coffee)
  • 360 g all-purpose flour
  • 300 g granulated sugar
  • 150 g dark brown sugar
  • 75 g unsweetened Dutch cocoa powder
  • 165 g vegetable oil
  • 270 g sour cream (room temperature)
  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 400 g butter (room temperature)
  • 660 g powdered sugar
  • 22.5 tbsp cooled black coffee
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three round cake pans.
  2. Sift together flour, cornstarch, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  3. In another bowl, beat granulated sugar, dark brown sugar, and vegetable oil until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, followed by sour cream, black coffee, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined. Divide batter among prepared pans.
  5. Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow cakes to cool before frosting with coffee buttercream.
