  • 2 tbsp Kashmiri green tea
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 12 star anise
  • 2 crushed cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • Sugar or honey to taste
  • Crushed nuts for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a saucepan and add green tea; let it boil for 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in baking soda and watch the color change to deep red; boil for another 2 minutes.
  3. Add star anise, crushed cardamom, and cinnamon; boil for an additional minute.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes until reduced by half.
  5. Stir in salt, then add whole milk while bringing it back to a boil.
  6. Once pink in color, strain into cups and sweeten with sugar or honey as desired.
  7. Garnish with crushed nuts if preferred.
