  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel-based)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • Pinch of salt
  • Candy fangs and red syrup for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla and red food coloring.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, salt, and alternate adding to the wet mixture with buttermilk. Stir in baking soda mixed with vinegar.
  4. Fill muffin cups two-thirds full and bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. Hollow out the centers of cupcakes and fill them with the creamy red velvet filling made from cake crumbs mixed with sweetened condensed milk.
  6. Frost cupcakes with pale buttercream made from softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Decorate using candy fangs and drizzle red syrup for the vampire bite effect.
